This rosemary orange spritz is one of my favorite functional mocktail recipes I’ve made yet. And it’s SO easy to make and is so healthy. It starts by making a rosemary tea from fresh rosemary, which has a beautiful botanical bitterness that almost has a gin like quality. It’s perfect for cutting back on drinking alcohol or just having a refreshing drink to boost brain and gut health!

The secret to healthy mocktail making

The world of homemade mocktails can feel intimidating, but I’m here to help you to move beyond basic sugar-filled juice into the world of alcohol-free mixology. It can hard to achieve the flavor complexities that alcohol offers without alcohol, but I do have a few tricks I’ve learned from experts and herbalism that I’m excited to share with you all.

I love this easy orange spritz recipe because it’s delicious and filled with brain health and gut health benefits. This mocktail is a touch tangy like its inspiration, my turmeric ginger apple cider vinegar spritz, and also has bitter and herbal notes thanks to homemade rosemary tea. You get the fermented funk and gut health goodness from the apple cider vinegar and the sweet, salty orange zest rim is loaded with anti-inflammatory phytonutrients that can help you feel amazing.

Also, the secret to the perfect mocktail is in truly enjoying that it’s alcohol-free, which is so much healthier for us. Personally, realizing that the pressure around drinking said far more about the people pressuring than about me was so freeing. Hot tip: this is true for things FAR beyond drinking. Also, people truly do not care if you’re drinking. They’re far too worried about how they’re being perceived to perceive you. I have an entire podcast episode filled with very pragmatic action tips for the most nerve wracking social situations. Here’s what we get into:

  • what to do with friends instead of going to bars
  • how to turn off your brain or chill out after work without booze
  • what to do when others think you’re judging them for continuing to drink
  • how to still have a ton of fun without alcohol + what to do if you miss feeling drunk
  • an exact script for what to say when people ask why you’re not drinking
  • and so much more!

  • honey ⁣
  • oranges, preferably organic⁣
  • fine grain sea salt ⁣
  • apple cider vinegar ⁣

How to make this easy mocktail

If you’re considering drinking less and thriving more, I hope you give this healthy mocktail a try. All you have to do is:

  1. Make the rosemary tea. Boil the water and add the rosemary. Cover and steep for 10 minutes, then remove sprigs and any stray leaves. Stir in honey and set it in the fridge.⁣
  2. Prepare the orange salt rim. Zest half of an orange. Mix the zest with a palmful of salt— really rub it together to distribute the oils in the zest. ⁣
  3. Dress the glasses. Drizzle honey on a plate and roll rim of a glass in it. Use your finger to spread a thin layer down the top-half of the outer glass. Roll the glass into the orange salt mixture to create an aesthetic rim. ⁣
  4. Make the mocktail. Juice the orange. Add one cup of the orange juice into a large jar along with apple cider vinegar, and rosemary tea mix. Stir to combine.⁣
  5. Pour and serve! Add ice to the dressed glasses. Distribute the juice mixture between the glasses until about three fourths of the way full. Top with sparkling water and enjoy!
