2023 was a year for the books, and I’m not just saying that because it was the year I released my brand new self-help book and USA Today best-seller, 100 Ways to Change Your Life. ICYMI, my book takes the past three years of information I’ve gotten from sitting down with the world’s leading doctors, researchers, CEOs, creatives on The Liz Moody Podcast, so if you love listening to the show, you’ll definitely love the book. I’ve asked doctors and specialists from all areas ALL of my probing questions, and yours too (if you submitted them to me on Instagram!). I’ve gotten to learn and grow as a person, questioning my own habits, beliefs, and routines. and I’ve gotten to do it alongside millions of you, which has been truly the honor of my life.⁣ Also in 2023, the Healthier Together Podcast became the Liz Moody Podcast, and we’re now one of the top health podcasts in the WORLD, and it’s all because of all of you. I’m truly so grateful for all of you.

You can order my new book here on Amazon, snag it at Target, or buy it wherever books are sold! I was literally so excited when I saw my book on the shelves at Target because they literally carry like 20 books!!

100 ways to change your life

On the topic of what we’ve learned from doctors, in 2023 we brought back two of our favorite past guests to the pod: board-certified integrative gastroenterologist Dr. Robynne Chutkan and internationally renowned Harvard-trained medical doctor and cancer researcher Dr. William Li to teach us about the health affects of alcohol. We learned so many things, like  how long it takes for the effects of alcohol on the body to go away, how alcohol impacts your microbiome and immune system, the reason you feel sad or anxious the day after drinking, and so much more. I highly recommend listening to the episode if you’re participating in dry January or adventuring into a sober curious lifestyle.

I wish I’d known sooner that alcohol was the second leading cause of cancer right after smoking. I wish I’d known how much it messed with our metabolisms and impacts our bodies abilities to grow stem cells which is why our hair is less shiny and our skin is more dull when we’ve been drinking. I also wish I’d known that drinking less wouldn’t make me boring, in fact it would make me more interesting and present. This ginger spritz mocktail recipe might just solve all your problems with cutting out drinking.

Ingredients in this healthy mocktail

I love using white tea in mocktails (anyone remember my White Tea Paloma??) One of my favorite mocktail tricks is to use quickly steeped but strong tea as a base. Beyond being a chlorogenic acid powerhouse (which pod listeners know is SO good for longevity, brain health, heart health, and more!), it also adds that alcohol flavor nuance that’s normally hard to achieve without alcohol. ⁣Here’s what you’ll need to make this delicious, healthy non-alcoholic drink:

  • White tea bags⁣
  • Ground turmeric
  • Honey
  • Grapefruit, ideally organic
  • Fine grain sea salt ⁣
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Grapefruit sparkling water ⁣

How to make turmeric grapefruit ginger spritz

  1. Boil the water and add the tea bags. Steep for 2 minutes, then remove and squeeze out bags. Stir in turmeric and honey, and put it in the fridge to cool.⁣
  2. Zest 1/2 large grapefruit or 1 small grapefruit. Mix with a palmful of salt— really rub it together to distribute the oils in the zest.
  3. ⁣Drizzle more honey on a plate and roll rim of a glass in it. Use your finger to spread a thin layer down the top half of the outer glass. Roll into the grapefruit salt mixture.⁣
  4. ⁣Juice grapefruit(s). To a large jar, add 1 cup of grapefruit juice (if your grapefruit/s gave you a little more or a little less, it’s cool), apple cider vinegar, and your tea mixture. Add ice and shake. ⁣
  5. Add ice to glasses. Pour in the tea/juice mixture until the glass is about 3/4 of the way full. Top each glass off with sparkling water. Cheers and enjoy!
